Do math problems in your head. Think of a word and see how many words you can get out of it. Just start thinking and try to make logical deductions, following the line of thought.
References :
Algebra is good exercise. Making things is good exercise. Reading is good exercise. I used to carry a dictionary with me and look up words I didn't know when I read. Then I would include them in my vocabulary. That seems to be cumbersome, but it's good exercise. Logic puzzles are good exercise. If you don't have puzzles, books etc. then get them. Use them.
References :
No matter what you are reading you are still exercising your brain....get up and actually work out too...that stimulates your muscels and wakes your brain up so that when you do learn, the info has a much greater chance of sticking.
References :
Its what I do too

Sudoku is fun. you can get free puzzles online & print them out, or get a cheap book. Crossword puzzles. - there are probably free crosswords & word searches online too, you can print out. Read a novel. Do something creative - pull out an instrument you haven't played for awhile, paint or draw something. Go out in the woodshop & build something. Invite a friend over to play cards or a strategy board game like chess, checkers or Risk, or Scrabble etc..
